Angaraag Mahanta, popularly known as Papon , is a multi-faceted talent. A composer, producer and singer who can play several instruments, this artiste from Assam shot to fame when MTV’s Coke Studio came calling, and when he sang Jiyen Kyun for the movie Dum Maaro Dum (2011). The new-age star of the Assamese folk-fusion scene now keeps shifting between independent music and a Bollywood career where he has had hits such as Moh moh ke dhaage, Kaun mera, Labon ka karobaar, and Kyon. Papon Latest Interview

At a time when rap and pop music have dominated the Bollywood music, only a few singers believe that melody is the real soul of music. Angaraag Mahanta, popularly known by his stage name Papon , is one such artiste.    Born to Assamese folk singers, Papon was trained in Indian classical and traditional music which majorly included devotional and folk. However, while rooted in folk, Papon has a variety of influences and his experiments are rich with ambient electronica, electro ghazals and a perfect blend of new age and Indian classical sounds. Papon  rose to fame with his song ‘Jiyein Kyun’ from the movie Dum Maaro Dum a few years ago and returned to floor in 2015 with the popular song ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’ from the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
